ASTEROIDS
Several years ago I remember seeing a documentary about astronomers working hard to get government funding to watch the skies and document asteroids that were doing fly-by's near earth's air space. As that time, no government agency was even remotely interested in setting up a worldwide program to watch and catalog asteroids that were making "near miss" passes by our world. I don't know if the films Armageddon (June 1998) or the one before it Deep Impact (May 1998) came before or after the government actually woke up and said "yes" this is something we need to take a serious look at and fund. But in time, they did see the danger and now there are worldwide programs to catalog, track and watch asteroid that are flying by our air space.
In the film Armageddon we are shown that the government has set in space an asteroid diverting device for our planet's safety against falling asteroids. However, at this time it is unknown if this is fact or fiction. However, in reading the prophecy of John in Revelations, I believe this may be the case.
A great flaming star fell out of the sky, burning like a torch. It fell upon one-third of the rivers and on the springs of water. (Rev. 8:9)
In John's vision, he sees the "flaming star" or an asteroid fall out of the sky and bits of it falling on one third of land. We know in science that when asteroid enters our atmosphere, they burn like a comet due to the friction with our atmosphere. We also know they tend to break into chunks and scatter debris over a wide range. But something is odd here as very seldom does the debris from an asteroid fall on one-third of the land. To have a debris field this large something else had to have happened. But that would cause such a huge debris field?
One-third of the sun was struck, and one-third of the moon, and one-third of the stars, and they became dark. And one-third of the day was dark and one-third of the night (Rev. 8:12)
This interesting passage in John's vision, at first, doesn't even make sense. We might think he was stuck on the one-third thing here. But keep in mind that John did not know anything about astronomy or understand earth science or even our current technology. So he could only record what he was seeing in his vision. The last part of his vision I'm sure confused him, for he is saying that AFTER the event, the sky is one third day, and one third night. We know it takes 3 thirds to make a whole. Logic tells us that one-third is "something else" that hides the sun and night stars. So what is the last third?
John doesn't even attempt to describe what that last third is that hides the sun and stars from our view in the aftermath. But with a little conjecture I think we can puzzle it out. If we or other countries have installed and anti-asteroid device, then chances are good if one comes in too close it will be deployed to try and blow it out of it's trajectory. However, it may be that the device is deployed either too late or is not strong enough to totally deflect all of it. So the anti-asteroid device may just destroy HALF of the asteroid.
So what would result if only half of the asteroid was destroyed by the anti-asteroid device? First, the damage from the whole asteroid would be greatly reduced when it impacts Earth. Second, if there were an explosion close to our atmosphere then the fall out of the blown up parts of the asteroid would enter our atmosphere over a MUCH greater range - like one-third of our land area's depending on the size of the asteroid. Third, we have to assume that parts of the asteroid debris will not fall to the earth at all, but these blown up bits will take up a collective orbit around world creating a cloud of debris. So now we can make sense of what John was looking at but could not explain. He may have been looking at the remains of blown up part of the asteroid that takes up a an orbit around our world.
So we can piece this together. After the attempt to blow the asteroid up only gets half of it and the rest of asteroid impacts the land and sea, there will be a cloud of asteroid debris that orbits our world which means this debris field will be so thick that it will block out the sun for a third of the time or block out the moon and stars for one third of the time. We are looking at a large debris field here and perhaps it will be a small price to pay for the survival of our world. But given John's vision it leads me to believe that anti-asteroid devices are already in place for this - John's prophecy tells us this - even if this device is under top secret wraps by world governments or perhaps as some other psychic visionaries have seen by and outside source.
The fact remains that our world has always been unstable to asteroid hits. Some scientist theorize that and asteroid collision is what made the dinosaurs go instinct. These is good evidence of crater impact on our world as well. But during our plants cycle of the shift, we are much more suspeptable to asteroid hits because at this time the magnetic field that normally repels orbiting matter is much weaker as we goes through the shift in our polar axis. Not only that, but with Jupiter, Saturn and Uranus' circling in a trine pattern, the magnetic fields pulling on our sun this creates a greater increase in the frequency and power of solar flares, solar winds and radiation. When add to this mix our world shifting across the heart of our galaxy this put even more magnetic forces into play. But there is more still.
We are not the only body in space that is experiencing this powerful cosmic tug-O-war. Between Mars and Jupiter there is a wide belt of asteroids. Some scientist and prophets say that this was once a world that was destroyed leaving a vast debris field of asteroids.

Fig. 1 Asteroid Belt (http://www.solarviews.com/eng/asteroid.htm)
As you notice in Fig. 1 this asteroid belt, drawn approximately to scale, is massive. Each and every one of these asteroids are being buffeted by the same magnetic forces, solar winds that we are, but since they don't have the mass of planet to keep them fairly stable in their orbits they have a nasty habit of clocking into each other. So like pool balls on a billiard table, they often go shooting out of there orbits, sometime hitting other asteroids, which go shooting off until a stronger magnetic field attracts them and pulls them in. Earth, with its strong magnetic field pulls in asteroids. While our moon gives us some protection, it cannot protect us from all asteroids.
The name of the star was Bitterness (some translations Wormwood). It made one-third of the water bitter, and many people died because the water was so bitter. (Rev. 8: 11)
It's interesting here in this prophecy by John that he calls the name of the "star" or asteroid "wormwood." Some translations have altered this word to "bitterness" which is just a taste. But in John's time, he would have been very familiar with the this herb. In Roman times, this bitter herb was used as a medicine to treat pain and for stomach problems and tapeworms. And likely got it's name - Wormwood - for being the cure to eliminate intestinal parasites. Wormwood oil is the key ingredient in the alcoholic drink Absinthe, which in the 1600's was reputed to bring on good health and psychic awareness experiences. The general nature of this herb is that it is extremely bitter, if too much is taken it can cause death. I find it interesting that even today the primary place where wormwood is grown is in Rome. Which may tie into Nostradamus' prophecy about the "star" or asteroid falling into the sea just outside the Tiber river which happens to run through Rome. Another interesting observation is the way wormwood looks. Which gives the wood a "worm eaten" texture see Fig. 2.

Fig. 3 Sulfur Based Asteroid
Note here the similarities between the pot-marked nature of the wormwood in Fig 2 and the pot marked nature of the sulfur based asteroid above in Fig. 3. So John in his vision may have named the star by the look of if it, based on the wormwood herb he was familiar with. But John gives us another piece of the asteroid puzzle in the scripture below.
For five months with agony like the pain of scorpion stings. One-third of all the people on earth were killed by these three plagues – by the fire and the smoke and burning sulfur (Rev 9: 18)
In any asteroid fall we would expect fire and smoke, strewn debris and such. But John specifically points out burning sulfur as one of the things that plagues people. The question is where did the sulfur come from in such quantity as to kill one third of the people of earth? In Rev. 8, 11 he also says that it gets into the water supply causing "bitter water." So the only way sulfur rocks, dust and burning bits of debris could range over 1/3 of the planet is if the asteroid that hit the earth was partly made up of sulfur or sulfur ore...like the one pictured above.
Sulfur has some interesting properties. It is a common ingredient found in fertlizers for growing plants like corn and soy beans. Sulfur is also one of the main ingredients in biological warfare weapon called mustard gas that causes sever burns, blindness and death to living things. Someone that is dusted with sulfur would suffer burns on the skin, blindness if it gets in the eyes and death if too much of it is ingested through food or water. Sulfur that is mixed in water would not only taste very bitter, but it would smell like rotten eggs.
Above John gives the number of 5 months for the "agony like the pain of scorpion stings." Note here he does not say people are suffering from scorpion stings only that it FEELS LIKE that. Which also happens to be the same kind of pain and skin reaction you would get if you had sulfur dust on your skin. He also suggests that this goes on for 5 months. Can he mean that we get sulfur dust falling on the earth for 5 months after the asteroid hits? Perhaps.
But all is not lost here. The good news is that sulfur oxidizes with sun and rain - so the sulfur will eventually dissipate. In the wake of that sulfur dusting and dissipation the plants will grow like mad - green lush and full because sulfur nutrients is something plants love and they will grow lush and full rapidly as if they have been freshly fertlized - which they have been.
So what can we do about all this? Nothing. But we can keep watch and be aware when the time of impact is coming so we can prepare for it. You can keep watch on the asteroids by going to: http://www.SpaceWeather.com and keeping track of their homepage chart which give updated daily.
Please note I will be updating this chart as the days move forward - Please note that the current count is in blue.
| Potentially Hazardous Asteroids (PHAs) are space rocks larger than approximately 100m that can come closer to Earth than 0.05 AU. None of the known PHAs is on a collision course with our planet, although astronomers are finding new ones all the time.
On February 18, 2010 there were 1100 potentially hazardous asteroids.
Notes: LD means "Lunar Distance." 1 LD = 384,401 km, the distance between Earth and the Moon. 1 LD also equals 0.00256 AU. MAG is the visual magnitude of the asteroid on the date of closest approach.
