Description:
This course teaches how to scry, a form of "seeing" by using physical objects and a form of meditation to see the past, the present or the future using very simple tools. This course teaches you step by step how to use the ancient art of scrying.
You will need to select or create your own object for scrying. It can be one of the more popular objects such as a crystal ball or a black mirror. However, it can also be something simple, such as a bowl of earth or water, or a candle flame. During the course I will discuss various items you may use and you can select whichever one appeals to you.
NOTE: This course is designed to be an INTERACTIVE course. HISTORICAL PERSPECTIVE
EARLY USE OF DIVINATION
DEFINITION: The word scry is a shortened form of the word descry, which means discover, detect, or discern objects at a distance. Scrying is a means of reviewing the past, detailing the present, or foretelling the future by gazing at an object. Scrying falls under the classification of divination. Divination is the art or practice of trying to foretell future or unknown events by secret or esoteric methods. Divination is a unique and interesting element of Earth Magick. Earth Magick consists of spiritual practices that are descended from, or influenced by, ancient nature-based religions.
Even if you are new to the study of nature-based spiritualism, you may have heard of the term divination. You may have read about some of the methods used by ancient peoples to anticipate the future. That quest is the essence of divination—seeking fore-knowledge of future events, in order to make correct decisions in the present. For example, if you were an ancient tribal leader, you must make decisions that affect the entire community. Or, on a simpler note, perhaps you were the head of your household. A situation arose that demanded an immediate response. As leader of the group, you knew that whatever you decided, your actions would affect the future of your entire group. You knew that making the correct decision would be crucial. Before you made that decision, you would seek additional information on the problem at hand; information that was not readily apparent to your eyes. And you would do that by consulting the all-knowing, unseen beings of the spirit world. You would ask for their guidance in helping you to make the best choice.
We know that the people of the ancient world relied on divination to make many of their important decisions. Each culture had its own methods for seeking advice from the spirit world. Every leader, from the heads of state to tribal councils to family elders, would utilize some form of divination on a regular basis. It was considered wise and prudent to do so.
Unfortunately, we have only a few examples of written language from this early time period to tell us the precise details of our ancestor’s divination practices. However, these divination skills were still taught and practiced by our ancestor’s descendents when later civilizations invaded these areas and absorbed their cultures. These later civilizations did possess a written form of language and used it to chronicle their contacts with older cultures. Roman historians, among them Cornelius Tacitus (c. A.D. 55-120), wrote detailed accounts of the spiritual practices and beliefs of the peoples of ancient Europe. He described the activities of the spiritual leaders of various cultures. He relates much information about their beliefs, including their frequent use of divination as a means to receive messages from their deities.
Because of this reliance on divination, the spiritual leaders of each community would educate themselves in various forms of divination, so that they could perform this vital function when called upon to serve their people. Different cultures popularized different methods of divination. A universally popular form of divination involved the practice of scrying.
If you are new to the use of divination or new to the specific use of scrying, here is a basic course designed to introduce you to the theory and practice of this ancient art.
Like all forms of divination, scrying is a skill. And like all skills, it must be practiced in order to achieve success. Some people have a special innate talent for it; a knack. They will achieve a successful scry sooner than others. But most people will achieve some modicum of success with repeated practice. So don’t give up too soon and cheat yourself out of this experience.
It is an unfortunate hallmark of modern society that we are all conditioned to receive instant gratification. We become impatient with standing in lines or waiting our turn. Our ancient ancestors were more conditioned to waiting for results. They knew that some things were worth waiting for, especially esoteric knowledge. They learned vast amounts of information, committing that knowledge to memory over long years of study. In our modern technologically-based society, we have forgotten our recent past. We expect to acquire a skill immediately. Sorry, but that is not the case with divination. So try to curb your impatience and give divination, and yourself, a chance to succeed.
Many people who study ancient spiritual paths are drawn to divination. They are attracted to it and they often choose to learn some form of divination so that they can perform it themselves. Some folks are interested in tarot cards. I felt drawn to learn two forms of divination: casting runes and scrying. However, I did not experience success the first time I tried either one. But I kept practicing and, eventually, I began to receive and interpret messages on a regular basis. And those messages became more and more accurate as I improved my ability to understand and interpret them.
Since becoming proficient at scrying, I have taught others how to scry and over time I have settled on a system that works for most people. This course will outline the basic elements of that system, in a certain order. Please try to adhere to this order at first. Over time, you can begin to tweak these elements into a system that works best for you.
THEORY
BASIC TENETS OF DIVINATION
As stated, scrying is a form of divination. The traditional theory behind divination states that everything that occurs in our physical world must first manifest in the astral plane. It is in this astral plane, or spirit realm, that the patterns of our lives and the events affecting our world first take shape. So, it follows that if you want to know about something that will happen in the future on the physical plane, you can look into the astral plane now and see what development is occurring there. It is this astral plane that you are accessing when you scry. And like many other divination tools, scrying works best when your question concerns planning goals or resolving conflicts.
So how do you see into the astral plane? Well, you can’t use the two physical eyes in your face. You will be looking for signs in the astral plane, or spirit realm, by using your third eye. You will be using your psychic sense, your spiritual essence, to open a pathway into the astral plane. You will do this by using your mind. For best results in scrying, you should place your mind in a meditative state. We will work on achieving that state.
Learning to scry will help you to develop your psychic abilities, even if you think you don’t have any. All forms of divination require the practitioner to use their sixth sense or inner eye. We all possess this sense, although it is usually not as strongly developed as our other five physical senses. After all, we have used our other five senses since birth! Your sixth sense may be understandably weak. But by learning to scry, you can develop and strengthen it.
Remember that when you ask a question during your scry, the message you receive will answer your question in the here and now. What does that mean? It means that if nothing changes concerning the circumstances surrounding your question, then this answer to your question is most likely in your future. If you don’t like the answer that your scry is indicating, then you can do something to influence a change in that situation. That “here and now” response is all a scry can do. It can show you a probable result, if nothing affecting your situation changes. It can only indicate what is likely to happen in the future, based on the current state of affairs. You are not bound by the answer you receive. The result of the scry is not inevitable, carved in stone. We are creatures of free will! If you don’t like the result of your scry, then do something proactive here on the physical plane to change the situation you are scrying.
Try not to think of scrying and other forms of divination as “seeing into the future.” Divination doesn’t really do that. It can only show you a probable result, if nothing changes. Of what value is it then? Well, divination allows us access to more information regarding the question we are posing; information that is not readily apparent to us. Taking all of this additional information into account, we can now make a better decision in the here and now
To some folks my last statements may seem like a ready-made excuse to use when the scry gives us one answer and then later, the situation turns out differently. But in all fairness to divination, we are creatures of free will are we not? The future is not set. We create our own reality. That belief underlies all forms of divination, whether you are consulting tarot cards, scrying a crystal ball or casting runes. Divination shows us what is likely to happen, thereby granting us the opportunity to change that outcome if we so desire.
For example, let’s say that you are scrying to see if you will get a job promotion. The scry will answer you based on the here and now. That is to say, if none of the circumstances surrounding your job promotion changes, then this result is your probable answer. If you don’t like the answer you receive, then you have time to effect a change in the circumstances surrounding your promotion.
Remember the basic tenant of divination: you are using your psychic sense to see into the astral plane. This plane is the place where the decision on the job promotion is taking shape. The decision is not yet solidly fixed; it is in a state of becoming. It is still in the formative stage, easily affected by changes in the present circumstances surrounding it. Knowing that, you can choose to do things here in our physical plane; things that will alter the current circumstances surrounding the promotion. Your actions here will affect the decision that is taking shape elsewhere, in the astral plane...
