The Magic of Salt

By Debbora A. Wiles

Founder of Psychic School House

Salt is perhaps one of the most common and most ignored commodities in modern life.  You will find salt virtually on every dinning table in the world, yet it is as vital for the existence of all living things.  We cannot live without salt. Out side of the general consumption of salt on foods, there are thousands of other forms of salt and many uses for it that has been long forgotten by the masses.

At one time in our general history salt was so precious that it was the basis for money.   The ancient Roman "dollar" was backed by salt - not by gold or silver.  This is where we get the word "salary" - or pay with salt.  But just because salt is cheap and abundant in our time does not make it any less valuable.

So what is it about salt that makes it so precious - even today?

To begin with, nearly all animals begin in a liquid soup of salt.  All eggs, loose and self-contained and all amniotic sacs around unborn mammals, all animal begin life in a saline salt solution that is surprisingly close to the PH and salt balance of our oceans.   This is one of the "proofs" that scientists use to qualify that we came from the ocean.

In addition to salt being a needed mineral to all living things, salt comes in a variety of forms, when salt is added to other minerals that are found in the earth we get new salt compounds and new ways to use salt.  As a pre-teen growing up on a farm, I got a little better than average "education" on the uses of salt than most kids.  Cows got a "salt lick" block in the pasture what was mineral rich and good for their health. Here, salt is used as a delivery system to get trace minerals inside the cows that is vital for their health.

My grandmother bought special kosher salt for all her canning needs when she put up vegetables from the garden or cured and smoked meats.  Kosher salt is a PURE salt that contains nothing but salt.  This is very different from table salt that has calcium silicate added to it that prevents it from caking. You can also buy salt with added iodine to make it more thyroid friendly.

The differences between these two salts I had learn the hard way a number of years later.  I had canned about 40 quarts of carrots with regular table salt.  Ok, I can hear you all laughing.  But about a week later, the jars of carrots began boiling in side the jars and then began exploding, perfuming my basement with carrots that smelled like barf.  After spending two days of cleaning up THAT mess, I assure you I learned a very important lesson about using the right kind of canning salt!

Salt as a preservative is well known as it is still used today in the canning all kinds of fruits, vegetables and curing fish and meats like ham and bacon.  But when these meats are "cured" today, they use still another kind of salt with the regular salt called potassium nitrate also known as saltpeter or the salt of Petra. This salt is still used today in small amounts not only in curing meats, but also in making medicines for high blood pressure, in fertilizers for plants and as a component for making explosives.

So there are many, many physical uses for salt, beginning with the way we are all bathed in when we enter the world, to using it to grow plants, to using it to blow up things.  There is no other compound like it in the world.  But as amazing as salt is in our physical universe, it is even more amazing for things does in the spiritual world.

Those of you that are fans of fantasy films are familiar that many "magic" rituals or religious rituals beings with a circle of salt or the sprinkling of salt.  Have you ever asked yourself why salt?  Salt is one of the most powerful grounding agents in the world.  That grounding affects all things that are "air-born."   If you put salt on the ground no plants will grow there, because plants are composite entities that are part physical structure and part spiritual aura body.  If the aura body cannot embed in the physical body of the plant and LIFT it up to grow, then no plant grows.  So the use of salt to ground the aura body of the plants is a secret that has been know since before biblical times.  In Judges 9:45 we read where a King Abimelech salts the city of Shechem to destroy it AND that land.  Salted land grows no crops to support a city - so the city was destroyed completely for ANY habitation.

The grounding effects of salt on spiritual bodies, is known the world over too.  Salt has been association with religions and religious purification ceremonies almost from the dawn of time.  The Japanese faith of Shinto uses salt to purify locations and people.  Sumo Wrestler's use salts to purity their bodies before doing combat.  Salt is a mandatory part of the Catholic rite of the Tridentine Mass, and salt is also add to the rite of "holy water" by the Roman Catholics'.   Also salt and salt water is the third item added in the churches rite of Exorcism to help expel unwanted nonphysical entities.   Even the ancient Aztec's used salt and salt water in religious ceremonies.

So the association between salt and spiritual grounding, cleansing and purification is well known and well documented.  Yet today with all the abundance of salt all around us we have forgotten nearly all of the "magical" properties of this vial chemical.

Practical Magic with Salt

Oddly enough, my first exposure to the magical uses of salt happened when I was doing research to write a thesis on witch craft.   As it happened, I got to the public library just as they were closing and I only had time to find one book on the topic. The librarian there let me take the book home overnight to copy out a few references.  A decision that gained the new librarian a stern lecture the next day for letting this very valuable and old book out of the library!

The book was a massive at 12 inches by 12 inches. It was four or five inches thick and was bound in thick black leather with a pentagram embossed into the cover.  It was published in the early 1800's and was a Witch's Grimorie or spell book.  That night I sat in my bed paging through the 1800's spells in amazement.  I was copying out a few spells for reference, when my eyes caught a spell for "curing an unfaithful husband."  The "spell" consisted of gathering a number of items, getting a lock of hair from the husband and many other things and the final kicker was she was to put a specific measure of saltpeter in her husbands drink for two turnings of the moon.

At that point, I burst out laughing. You see when I was coming up I over heard a conversation my grandmother was having with another lady who also was suffering with a cheating husband. She told her to put a measured dose of saltpeter in his coffee every day for a few months and that would stop the affair cold. AND IT DID!

You see the nature of saltpeter is that it lowers the blood pressure (is used in medicines today) and given enough of this over a period of weeks, it can lower a males blood pressure to the point where he could not rise to the occasion even if he wanted to.  After a few week of "failure to perform" the "affair" would come to a screeching halt. But it wasn't the witch's spell that did the trick here - it was "better living through chemistry!"  So that "magic" was in the salt and knowing wise ways to use it.

Today saltpeter is hard to get hold of and is well regulated.  But in a country community, saltpeter was a common thing to have around the house as it was used in smoking and curing meats.

So let's talk about some practical ways you can use salt now that we know its nature.

Salt as a Grounding Field

One of the best properties of salt is its ability to create a grounded field.  The fastest way to create a grounded field is to dissolve a tablespoon of kosher salt or sea salt in a quart of water and put that in a pistol grip sprayer.  You can add your favorite fragrance to the water if you like to get "double duty" out of the grounding process.  Here are some things you can do.

  1. Spray clothing before pressing to repel dirt and stains.
  2. Spray furniture and ceiling fans to resist dust and hair.
  3. Spray children's rooms to ground them and prevent nightmares.
  4. Spray a wash cloth and put it in the dryer to ground clothing.
  5. Spray hair brushes to help with static cling.
  6. Spray pet brushes to help remove hair and prevent hair float.

There are thousands of applications here and you can get just a creative as you like with this.

Salt as a Healing Agent

As a healing agent, salt is very hard to beat. Since we began in a salt broth, healing with salt is both natural and fast.  Salt is a natural killer of bacteria, viruses and microbial bacteria and germs.  It disinfects as well as it sanitizes and the price is oh- so-right!

  1. Use sea salt or kosher salt to soak wounds and speed healing.  (Yep, dentists have been giving that advice for tooth extractions for 200 years.)
  2. Use a salt gargle to disinfect and heal a sore throat.
  3. Salt is naturally anti-bacterial and has anti-body agents in it as well.  Add to your goldfish bowl or koi pool to kill about 80% of active microbial bugs and to help heal lesions and torn fins.
  4. Use salts in your water bath water. Not only does it clean out the "psychic trash" that collects in your aura body, but it cleans, disinfects and softens the skin.  It also allows you to use less soap as it enhances the soap lather.
  5. If you are not one to take baths, purchase a soap what has salt in it and use it in the shower, it will do the same job.
  6. A small amount of salt in distilled water can be used as decongestant for a runny nose in nose drops.  Ideal for stuffy infants and adults alike.

There are thousand of uses for salt in healing mainly for it disinfection properties and it know healing properties.  When using salt as a medicine, be sure to use distilled sterile water.

Spiritual Work with Salt

Salt has been used in spiritual work since the dawn of time as we learned above as it creates powerful grounding fields where ever it is used.  The circle of salt is used as grounding field and protects anyone within the circle from non physical entities.  A nonphysical entity that cannot move is worthless and harmless.   And THAT is a beautiful thing if you are inclined to happen on a nonphysical entity or if you inadvertently bring one home one embedded in an object you bought - like at a yard sale or from your grandmother's attic.  Salt can be your best friend when dealing with unknown entities.

  1. Use salt in a pistol grip sprayer to remove construct entities from children's toys, stuffed toys, and furniture after they have been sick to eliminate the possibility of re-infection.
  2. Use a cup of salt to a washer load to ground clothing and bedding after any serious illness to remove self-made construct residue that may re-infect.  Adding salt to colored clothing has the added effect of setting the dye in fabrics and it makes them brighter and last longer.
  3. If you are psychically sensitive, you may want to mix an extra strong solution of salt in a pistol grip sprayer that has a stream setting and spray a continuous and unbroken line of the salt solution around the outside of your house, to create a barrier against nonphysical entities.  Be sure to spray your house directly and not the ground or your plants will die.
  4. A fine mist can be used inside a house on the outer walls for the same reason.  Be sure to get fireplaces and all doors and windows.  Repeat as needed.
  5. Salt may be used a weed killer instead of harmful and expensive chemicals.
  6. A pocket sized sprayer of salt solution can be stowed in a pocket or purse when you are traveling and visiting "haunted" or historic locations.  It works like "bug" spray for ghosts.
  7. Use a circle of salt when doing spiritual work or extended prayers for extra protection.
  8. Carry salt on your person at all times if you are ghost hunting.

For more uses of salt in combating nonphysical negative construct entities and other entities see course on Dynamic Ghostology in our course catalog at: http://www.psychicschoolhouse.com/catalog_ghostology.htm

I encourage you to have a well stocked panty in a variety of salts.   Buy kosher salt, sea salts and table salt and use them often.  Also I encourage you to buy personal hygiene products that not only contain salt for their grounding effects, but also natural products that do not contain petroleum products.  Gasoline and skin is never a good mix!  Reading the ingredients in your favorite deodorant, soap, sun screen, lotion and bug spray can be as scary as watching a horror film.

If you can't pronounce the names, the chances are great that you don't want that on your skin, much less sprayed on a child's or pet's skin.  So become a label reader!  As an alternative, there are many people who make natural, organic and pure personal cleaning and heath aid product that not only contain salt, but have heavenly "nature made" fragrances for both the guys and gals.

If you are psychically sensitive, I highly recommend at least two to three baths a week in bath salts.  If you work in a crowed office, I recommend you use a soap with salt in it daily to wash the psychic trash our of your aura body. I know bath salts are hard to find these days but I recently found a web site that offers natural bath salts and other wonderful products at a very reasonable price.  Check it here: http://www.starshinesoap.com

Meanwhile, we can all benefit from broader and better uses of salt.  We are, after all, the salt of the Earth, and that is where true healing, both physical and spiritual begins.

Because of that reliance, scrying can be an excellent way to develop your own personal psychic skills.

The Summer Solstice

by

Dr. Charlotte Pipes

This holiday, called by many names, has been celebrated since Neolithic times. Many ancient stone circles commemorate its occurrence every year. Stonehenge, in southern England, is one of the most famous ancient structures to emphasize this holiday. Positioned outside of the main circle of stones is a solitary stone in the distance, called an outlier stone. To see the solar alignment, you must stand at the center of the circle and stare at the outlier stone and beyond it to the horizon in the distance. At dawn on the Summer Solstice, the sun will appear to rise exactly behind this solitary stone. This particular outlier stone at Stonehenge is called the Heel Stone and it still, after all these millennia, correctly indicates the solstice in June.

This holiday features prominently in a many popular works of literature. Contrary to popular belief, the Shakespeare play A Midsummer Night's Dream does not refer to the Summer Solstice in June. Modern readers often equate the terms Midsummer and Summer Solstice, but they are not the same. If you read the play, you will see from the dialogue of the characters that they are referring to the feast of May Day, or May 1st. In past times, some cultures celebrated May Day as the Feast of Midsummer, hence the modern confusion.

Another ancient name for this day was Litha, and you will see that term on some Wheel of the Year calendars. Litha or Lithe is a term for the Summer Solstice used by the Saxon tribes of northern Europe. The term Litha has been translated to mean "light."

Some authors do depict the June Summer Solstice as Midsummer's Day, among them, Professor J. R. R. Tolkien (1892-1973). In The Hobbit, when Bilbo, Gandalf and the dwarves visit Elrond in Rivendell; they celebrate the June Midsummer Solstice. In The Return of the King, when Aragorn is crowned king and marries Arwen, they wed on the Summer Solstice. Professor Tolkien was a professor of Anglo-Saxon at Oxford University in England, so he would have been familiar with the Saxon term litha. Tolkien even uses the term lithe in his Shire Calendar - Forelithe is the name for June and Afterlithe is the name for July.

The Midsummer Solstice is indeed the time of light, when the northern latitudes experience the longest day and the shortest night of the entire year. In 2008, it falls on Friday, June 20, at 6:59PM CDT, when the sun moves out of the constellation of Gemini the Twins and into the constellation of Cancer the Crab.

If you are able to view the sunrise or sunset on that day, you will notice that the sun does not rise due east and set due west. Rather, it rises northeast and sets northwest. The sun is providing maximum energy output now. It is highest in the sky and we receive more minutes of light at this time than at any other time of the year. In my area, the 24 hours of the day are divided into 14 hours of daylight and 10 hours of darkness. What is the division on your area? Check it out.

Ask the Psychic

How do I pick the right Tarot deck for me?

In my opinion, Tarot cards should never be picked out by the images alone.  Keep in mind you are choosing a TOOL to help you divine truth.  So there is a lot more than images to consider.

Since the time when fortunes were told with simple playing cards, many Tarot decks have been developed - hundreds of them.  I once saw a "biker deck" that was painted with dark and disturbing images. It showed a lot of people being killed - especially in the suit of swords which translates into EMOTIONAL turmoil - not physical violence.  This shows that the cards were developed by someone who didn't understand the true meaning of the cards or their vibrationial power to draw in dynamic energy.  Drawing in all dark energy is the LAST thing you want if you are going to shoot for fast and accurate information when you read them.  In my opinion, this is like inviting a dark entity to share your daily tea.

So what you are really looking for in a Tarot deck is a deck that works well with

your own special vibrationial harmonics.  There are young souls, middle aged

souls, old souls and very old souls.  Each of these's groups will be on a different rung

of the spiritual ladder, so to speak, and will be vibrating at different levels.  So what

you are seeking is a deck that works well with your own PERSONAL vibrationial energy.

How to Pick Out a Deck

If you are in a store that has many decks, the best thing to do is to pick out about 6 decks that appeals to your eyes.  Lay the decks on flat surface side by side about 3 inches apart. Next rub your hands together briskly, clear your mind and close your eyes and take a hand and hold it about and inch above the first deck.  Notice how the energy of the cards feel?  Do they feel cool or warm?  Does it make your hand tingle or sweat?  Are you getting any colors or images in your eyes? Does the vibrationial energy of the deck make you feel good or bad?  Is your stomach tight or relaxed? Make a note of how the energy feels and move on to the next deck and repeat the process.

Once you have examined the energy of each deck, separate out any deck that is

Giving you negative feeding back energy - cool or cold energy, dark colors behind your eyes, bad vibes and a tight stomach.  Repeat the FEEL process with the remaining decks.

The feeling of deck that works well with your special energy should feel warm and

comfortable like fuzzy bunny slippers and may tingle your hand a bit as the energy

of the deck leaps into your hand.  What you are looking for is "good feeling vibes."

Once you have a couple of decks that is a good harmonic match to your personal energy, the next thing you want to check is to see if they are any books with the deck that teaches you how to read and interpret the cards.  If you can find a book or two on how to read them or an interactive CD, then go ahead and buy that deck and the books together.

If you are buying a deck online, or from a catalog do the same thing - only hold your hand up to your computer screen above the image of the deck. Be sure to discount any light tingling of your hand when using this method - as the energy of your monitor is going to give you some energy feed back. So test the screen first, and then test the image of the deck so you can tell the difference in the feedback energy.  Then repeat the process and buy the best deck for your vibes.

Once you get your deck home don't be too hot to use it.  The next step is to charge the deck with your specific vibrationial energy.  To do that, just slip the unopened deck under your pillow and sleep on them for a few days while you read the book(s).  After that, you can take the deck out of the box, rub your hands together briskly and PRESS your energy into the cards.  At this point you have a fully charged deck that will work well with your energy.

Once you have read the books, and the deck is charged, I suggest that you do one reading a day with your deck (a general reading) and record what you get in a notebook.  This will teach you how long to shuffle the cards and the different feeling they give when it's time to stop and lay them out, it will teach you the different layouts and how the cards work together as a unit and how the your mind works with the interpreting the images and symbols on the cards.

Record your layout and your "guess" at what that layout means for that day.  After a few days go back and see how accurate you were for that day.  If you missed the meaning, then you need to record what did happen and adjust how the images are working with your energy in interpreting the meaning of the layout as a whole. With practice, you can get very, very accurate at predicting the future, the past and the present.

One word of caution here.  Once you get your Tarot deck charged with your personal energy, don't let anyone else use your deck.   During the process of doing a reading, a client can touch a card or two and that won't hurt.  But don't let them shuffle the deck or cut the cards, this will foul YOUR energy circuit with the deck.  By the time you get to the stage of doing readings for someone else, you will have come a LONG way in understanding the feel of the deck and how it works with subtle changes in energy.  Your client is not trained to clear their minds and FEEL the fine changes in the deck that leads to accurate interpretation. So YOU handle the cards at all times and don't let anyone else touch them. If someone does handle your deck, you will have to recharge your deck all over again.

What Tarot Deck do I Use?

The Tarot deck that works best with my energy is the deck developed by Hermman Haindl, called the Haindl Tarot deck.  Hermman Haindl was a German artist who was born in 1927.  Haindl was born a clairvoyant. Over his lifetime he spent many, many years studying in the esoteric arts in a wide range of divination arts before he was inspired to create this unique tarot deck.

Haindl was also a life long student of world cultures and myths, legends and ancient religions and he used all these things in developing this deck.  Unlike other tarots decks, Haindl removes some of the common human representations, and replaces them with gods and mythical figures of the world culture.  In doing this, he reminds us that we are all extensions of god. He uses ancient cultures like the Egyptian in gods and goddesses like: Nut, RA, Isis, Osiris.  He uses the ancient culture of the American Indians in cards like: The Spider Woman, Old Man, the White Buffalo Woman and Chief Seattle.  He uses the ancient West Indian culture in: Radha , Krishna and he uses the ancient English Wicca gods in, Venus of

Willendorf, Odin, Brigit of Ireland and he uses the lore of the Arthur legend in his trump cards.

In addition to world cultures and religions, he also incorporates other things into his cards, like the Chinese I-Ching, Astronomy, Astrology, Numerology, The Kaballa and the Hebrew alphabet and in adding all these things to his cards, it opens up many, many doors to the reader for each card's interpretation.  This is a complex deck and the energy from this deck is VERY swift moving as Haindl developed it when he was in his 60's when his own energy was very fast moving.  Of all the Tarot deck that have been developed this is perhaps the only one where the artist and clairvoyant medium was the same.  In other decks, a psychic would ask an artist to paint the images for the cards and the psychic's images and the artist's images are likely like day and night.

Like Haindl, I was born a clairvoyant and have studied not only world cultures, but almost all of divination arts.  On top of that, I'm also an artist. That puts the energy of this Tarot deck and my energy at perfect match.  So when I use it I get extremely accurate information.

But this deck may be to fast and complex for most people.  As I said above, the BEST way to pick a deck is by the energy.  Also, the older you get, the faster your dynamic energy flows, so at sometime you may want to retest other decks as your own energy moves faster and faster over the years.
